| Setting: Takoma Park, MD, January 5, 2009. Bus route #18, 6 pm. An African-American mother and two girls, ages about 6 and 8, get on the bus a few stops after the metro station. Mother is dressed in a red coat and hat, while the girls wear mostly pink. The seats available in the bus are such that the girls sit together but the mother has to sit across the aisle. The youngest one is not happy with this, and wiggles in her seat while complaining: "nuh-uh-nuh-uh-nuh-uh-nuh-uh-nuh!". A buisnessman, boiled wool coat, trendy square glasses, graying goatee, bald spot, looks up, and deadpans, with a twinkle in his eye: "That is far too many "nuhs." Her mother, and the whole bus, laughs. The girl closes her mouth and stares, eyes wide. But not for long. Soon, she is singing "the wheels on the bus go round and round." Very loudly. "The bus driver says 'move on back! move on back!'... the baby on the bus says 'waaa waa waaa, waaa waa waa".... the mommy says 'ssh shh shh'... the daddy says 'make that baby be quiet!" The last verse about the daddy is sung with extra gusto. The mother smiles and says, "that's your favorite part, isn't it?" the girl nods and smiles, displaying missing teeth. Her older sister declares that the "waaa waa waa" part is her favorite, demonstrating the hand motions. They ask what their mom's favorite is-- she says it's "move on back!", deepening her voice to imitate the bus driver. "Mom? Didn't a loooong time ago black people had to sit... had to sit... I forget where they had to sit!" "The back of the bus." "Why?" "It was segregation, honey." "What's that?" | | |

| The California Milk Association has gone all-out with its latest website. http://www.whitegoldiswhitegold.com/ It involves "dairy-conscious glam rock" and an interactive website where you get "medallions" for listening to these "rock" songs about the benefits of milk. Basically, think about times in the movie Anchorman when they burst into song, turned into a flash game, in order to teach you about milk. What the heck?! | | |

| Biden: "When a country engages in genocide, when a country engaging in harboring terrorists and will do nothing about it, at that point that country in my view and Barack's view forfeits their right to say you have no right to intervene at all." --CNN Transcript To paraphrase, "If we think you are harboring terrorists, we can invade you, and you have no right to complain." How is this different from Bush's policy? What makes this even scarier is our official policy on what a terrorist organization is. According to the patriot act, "a "terrorist organization" can be any "group of two or more individuals, whether organized or not," that uses an "explosive, firearm, or other weapon or dangerous device (other than for mere personal monetary gain), with intent to endanger, directly or indirectly, the safety of one or more individuals or to cause substantial damage to property." In other words, just about any kind of violence can qualify as terrorism--even when it is a struggle that advances democracy and even when it is being carried out in opposition to unjust regimes." So. According to US law and Biden, we can invade any country where there is any kind of violence that is not for personal gain, and they have no right to complain. Any one else terrified? | | |
